HOW WE WORK
“Zartonk-89” is an Armenian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 1989 and registered as an NGO with the Ministry of Justice in 1995. Since its foundation, Zartonk has been actively engaged in the promotion of health, education, environment and social assistance for needy segments of the rural and urban population in Armenia. The active support and creativity of our partners and local volunteers have made it possible to extend its presence to other regions of Armenia; to date there are branches of our NGO all over the country.
From an organizational standpoint, our NGO has a collegial management. The NGO-Board is, among others, directly responsible for electing the NGO President, Vice-President and Secretary respectively. Operational work (project implementation, grant-writing and general networking) is the responsibility of the NGO staff, which is comprised of both permanent and volunteer members. Our modest resources have allowed us to establish and maintain partnerships with other sister organizations abroad whose support for our NGO activities has been active and consistent. The support, for instance, of the Catholic Committee against Hunger and Development, in France, is worth mentioning.
Zartonk-89 actively monitors the issues it has undertaken as part of its vision--youth, education and community development. This monitoring allows the organization to conduct brainstorming sessions for the identification and generation of new project proposals.
Pipeline project-proposals are prepared for
submission to potential donors. Over the
past few years,
Zartonk-89 has actively participated in international development
conferences. In 2002 Zartonk-89 participated in the World Social Forum for
Development in Porto Allegere, Brazil and in 2002, in the Asia Regional
Conference on Volunteering and Volunteer Management in Busan, South Korea, and
the 17th IAVE World Volunteer Conference in Seoul, South Korea. We
also participated in a meeting with partner organizations in Dubrovnik, Croatia
in 2001.
