Access to Higher Education for Orphans

·   In 1995 the “Education” project helped 25 parentless children to continue their education at various centers in Armenia. The project budget was $2000. Pre and post tests showed 80% improvement among the young people who participated in the project. All 25 were accepted into higher educational institutions.  

Our Heart and Soul to You Children Summer Camp

·    From 1994 to 1999 the ongoing project “Our Heart and Soul to You Children”, a 20-day summer camp for parentless and underprivileged children. The camp, which was held in Vanadzor for 6 years and in Kaphan for 1 year, focused on health education, mental and physical rehabilitation, and education. Every year, 380 children participated in the camp, supervised by trained teachers and health workers. In all, 2460 children participated in the project. The annual budget $13,572. The children left the camp with new knowledge of nutrition, exercise, and hygiene, which they are now able to reproduce at home.

   Over the course of the camp, instructors and nurses noticed that the children became less depressed, gained physical strength, relaxed mentally, and gained important skills in interacting with other children. Serious medical and psychological problems were identified and authorities were informed so that the children were able to receive appropriate treatment throughout the year.  

    Daily Bread Flour Mill in Dprabak and Gegharkunik Regions

·   In 1996, our “Daily Bread” project installed a flourmill in the village of Dprabak in the  Gegharkunik region, which now serves 6 village communities. Now, 1000 villagers regularly bring their grain to the mill. The total project budget was $18,000. Surveys among villagers showed that the villagers now receive 50% more profit from their grain, as having a mill closer to their farms allows them to spend much less on transport.  

Daily Bread Ltd. in Syunik Region

·    In 2000, Zartonk-89 implemented another Daily Bread project in Syunik village in Syunik Marze (Southern Armenia), financed by French CCFD (Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development). The flour mill is used by 6000 villagers from 20 surrounding villages. The total project budget was $28,000. Villagers using the mill also experienced a 50% increase in profits. We founded Daily Bread Ltd. Syunik village. 60% of the profits are used by Zartonk-89 to implement educational, social and health projects for underprivileged children.

Migration of Women

·    In 2000, we implemented the “Main Problems of Irregular Migration of Women” research project. The total budget of the project was $5,000. The research identified and provided psychological support to 150 women who were victims of trafficking.  

Health Promotion for Children I

·    In 2000, 320 beneficiaries took part in the “Health Promotion” project financed by “Daily Bread” LTD.  The total budget of the project was $500. The children’s knowledge about health and hygiene increased, and evaluation results showed that the children’s knowledge level increased 60%. At the end of the project toiletries donated by UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) were distributed to children.  

Staff Training

·    In 2001, “Staff training” project was implemented. The aim of the project was to strengthen the organization’s administrative capacity building. The project was financed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affaires and French CCFD (Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development). The total budget was $10,465. The organization was empowered by training and technical means (computers and Internet access were purchased. The members of the organization participated in computer, foreign languages (English, French), and project management trainings). This project has greatly developed our organization and the skills of our staff.  

Kind Sowers

·   In 2001, the “Kind Sowers” project, financed by French CCFD (Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development) was implemented in Shake village of Sisian. The total budget was $10,293. In Shake village 20 villagers increased wheat production and the organization received 2000kg flour which is being used in our “Sweet rolls for children” project.   

First Aid Education for Rural Villagers

·   In 2002, our “Health care” project was implemented in 6 villages of Gegharkunik region financed by UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). The total budget was $2,256. 53 trainers were trained in first aid in Gegharkinik region. The effectiveness of the project was assessed through questionnaires, which showed that the participant’s knowledge increased 33%.  

Sweet Rolls for Children

·    In 2002, “Sweet rolls for children” project, financed by French CCFD (Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development) was implemented in Lori. The total budget was $19,880. We established cake production in Vanadzor LTD’s branch. 60% of the profits are transferred to “Zartonk-89” to assist with organizational development and projects.  

Health Promotion for Children II

·   In 2002, we implemented a “Health promotion” project in 4 village schools in Sisian. The project was financed by “Daily Bread” LTD. The total budget was $1,000. The knowledge level of the participating 480 children increased 52% according to questionnaires.
